Rules for Passengers Traveling to/through the USA

November 8, 2022

The rules for travelers to enter the United States of America have changed

From November 8, 2022, in accordance with the Order of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the United States has changed the entry rules for foreign citizens

All persons over 2 years of age must complete a form indicating that they have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or are exempt from vaccination.

This questionnaire must be submitted to the airline representatives before boarding a flight to the United States. Failure to complete or provide incorrect or false information on the form may result in a flight delay, disqualification of the passenger from the flight and denial of future travel to the United States. In addition, any passenger who does not comply with the requirements of the questionnaire may be subject to criminal liability and imprisonment in accordance with US federal law.

! This requirement does not apply to US citizens and immigrants.

In the US, they abandoned the "vaccination status": now the recommendations are the same for everyone

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published updated guidelines on August 11, 2022, in which it eased most of the covid restrictions.

In particular, CDC advice for the vaccinated and the unvaccinated is no longer different. The changes are listed in the press release and updated "guidelines for minimizing the impact of covid".

Here's the most important:

  • "CDC COVID-19 prevention recommendations no longer differ based on a person’s vaccination status because serious infections do occur, although the disease is usually mild, and people who have had COVID-19 but are not vaccinated have some degree of protection against severe illness, developed after a previous illness," the CDC website says. This means that all CDC recommendations are now the same for both vaccinated and everyone else.
  • Routine covid testing will no longer be recommended in most places for people who are asymptomatic. First of all, this will affect schools and other budgetary institutions that were required to constantly conduct testing.
  • In case of contact with a sick person, it is now recommended not to isolate for 5 days, but to wear a "high-quality mask" for 10 days. Lockdown lifted "to limit social and economic impacts". After 5 days, contact persons are recommended to be tested.
  • Those who become ill must go into isolation, but may end early in 5 days if they do not have a fever or other symptoms. In this case, they need to continue wearing the mask for 10 days.
  • People who test positive can stop wearing a mask if they are asymptomatic and have tested negative twice in a row – on the sixth day after the onset of infection, and then again on the eighth day.

It is not yet known how the changes will affect the conditions for entering the United States: the page with information about anti-covid rules for arriving in the country is now in the status of updating. "The CDC is revising this page to align with updated guidance," the website said in a notice.
