January 1 – New Year

New Year in Uzbekistan

The custom of celebrating the European New Year came to Uzbekistan during the Soviet period. The locals fell in love with the traditions of Western culture. During the winter festivities, a magical atmosphere reigns in the cities of the country.

Preparation for this holiday begins almost from the beginning of December. The streets of cities and towns are decorated with festive garlands and decorations. Decorated Christmas trees are being set up in squares, shopping centers, restaurants and cafeterias. Shop windows are decorated with New Year's installations. Posters with congratulations are hung everywhere. On the eve of the winter holidays, a live or artificial spruce is installed in houses, under which a figurine of Santa Claus is placed. A popular decoration is homemade snowflakes on window panes.

Mass festivities begin on December 31st. In Tashkent, the center of the festivities is the square near the National Library of Uzbekistan, where the country's main Christmas tree is installed. Its length is 36 meters, and it is decorated with more than 25 thousand toys and is considered one of the largest in the CIS countries. On New Year's Eve, festive fireworks are arranged throughout Tashkent.

The square near the city circus became a favorite place for children. Attractions, stalls with sweets and toys are installed on it. Santa Claus, whom the locals call Cor Bobo, brings gifts to children under the Christmas tree, with his companion Snegurochka - Korkiz. Instead of deer, these characters ride a donkey.

New Year's holidays in Uzbekistan are bright and colorful. The cities are preparing an extensive program of festive events on the eve of the celebration and on New Year's Eve. Restaurants and hotels offer parties and shows. The largest festivities and concerts are held in Tashkent.

Rest can be diversified with a cultural program, which includes excursions to the sights of the capital of Uzbekistan.

Gastronomic tours are popular among tourists, which include tastings and master classes in the preparation of national dishes.

Winter sports enthusiasts will love the ski resorts. The most popular of them are the Chimgan and Beldersay tracts, which are located in the northeast of Tashkent. The resorts have trails of all types of difficulty, picturesque landscapes and a favorable climate.
