Amir Temur Square

Amir Temur Square

The square, which today bears the name of the famous commander, was built at the end of the 19th century. Then it was a small park in the very center of Tashkent, at the intersection of two main city streets. On August 31, 1994, on the eve of the third anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence, a bronze equestrian monument to a commander dressed in royal military clothes (sculptors Kamol and Ilkhom Jabbarovs) was erected in the park, and the park was cleared and turned into a square with greenery and fountains. The motto of Amir Temur "Power in Justice" is inscribed on the monument in four languages.

The famous statesman, commander Amir Temur was born in the village of Khoja Ilgar, not far from Shakhrisabz. He was the son of Taragai, belonging to the Barlas family. Since his youth, Temur participated in various wars, delved into the system of government. He ruled a huge empire for over 30 years and created a vast state. More details about the life and work of the Timurid dynasty can be found in the "State Museum of Timurids", located next to the park.

Today the square is surrounded by such famous buildings as the Uzbekistan Hotel, the Law Institute, and the Palace of Forums, where many official ceremonies are held.

Japanese garden

Japanese garden

Another attraction is the "Japanese Garden" – a kind of Japanese island in the middle of a big city! Gazebos, a tea house, a lake, cozy wooden bridges, a variety of birds – all this successfully conveys the Japanese flavor.

The history of the garden begins in 1947, when a park was organized on the site of a vacant lot in the center of Tashkent. The pit for the lake was created by Japanese prisoners of war. The official opening of the park took place on August 25, 2001. Since its opening, the garden has become one of the favorite places for both guests and residents of the city.

In the very center of the "Japanese Garden" there is Buden (Tea Pavilion). At the entrance, a bell is heard ringing to scare away evil spirits. The tea ceremony is a kind of mystery in Japanese culture.

Before entering the house, you must definitely spin the national Japanese drum – the Japanese believe that by this action you will ensure yourself a connection with the Gods. There are national Japanese costumes on the walls of the house.

Also in the park there is an amazing garden of stones "Seketei". This garden is inextricably linked with the philosophy of Tao, reflecting the order and harmony of the universe. Each composition, 15 stones. In Japanese culture, this amount is related to the full moon.
