From January 1, 2023, tourists in Turkey will be charged a tax of 2% for stays in hotels, guest houses, campsites and other tourist areas. It will be charged by the accommodations.
This was reported by the official newspaper of the country "Resmî Gazete".
In addition, when making an organized tour, the tax may be included by travel agencies in the cost of the tour.
Pupils and students living in dormitories, boarding houses and campsites are exempt from paying the tax. Representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations that have diplomatic status will also not pay tax.
The Turkish authorities planned to introduce a tourist tax back in 2019, but postponed this measure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
