India Entry Rules

Covid entry requirements lifted

From November 22, 2022, visiting the country is possible without any medical documents - neither vaccination certificates nor certificates with coronavirus test results are needed.

The updated entry protocols issued by the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Union (MoHFW) now say "desirable", "preferred" for COVID-19 vaccinations. No more. There is no mention of tests at all. It is also not necessary to complete the Air Suvidha online health declaration before travelling.

However, travelers are still responsible for monitoring their health from the moment they arrive. And the temperature will continue to be measured upon arrival.

A week ago, the local government made it optional to wear masks on domestic and international flights. "Wearing a medical protective mask on board an aircraft is no longer mandatory, and its absence will not result in a fine or criminal prosecution," the report says.

From 11 January 2022, India will introduce a mandatory weekly quarantine for all foreign tourists, regardless of vaccination status

On January 7, 2022, the Indian government revised the rules for the entry of foreign tourists against the background of an increase in cases of infection with omicron.

According to the innovations (updated protocol of the Indian Ministry of Health), all foreign guests arriving in India, regardless of their vaccination status, will be required to undergo a 7-day quarantine. On the 8th day, it is necessary to pass the PCR test and upload its results to the special Air Suvidha portal. There you will also need to fill out a questionnaire before departure, where you indicate your data, including information about the countries that the tourist has visited in the last 2 weeks.

Previously, tourists vaccinated with "Sputnik V" were exempted from quarantine (only those who had not been vaccinated were sent for isolation). Now, however, everyone will have to spend a week at the hotel. At the same time, it is possible to use the hotel infrastructure, but leaving the place of residence is strictly prohibited.

Upon arrival in India, tourists will have to take another PCR test and wait for its results at the airport. The test can be pre-booked online through the Air Suvidha portal. Upon arrival, you need to install the Aarogya Setu application (Google Play, App Store) on your mobile device – the results will come there.

If the test is negative:

  • Tourists go to the hotel

If the test is positive:

  • Those passengers who test positive will be re-tested
  • If repeated results are positive again, tourists are isolated and taken for treatment

Those in contact with the sick will have to be in home quarantine.

Children under 5 years of age are exempt from testing both before and after arrival. However (!), If upon arrival or during the quarantine period they show symptoms of COVID-19, they will need to be tested and treated in accordance with the established protocol.

Requirements for PCR tests also apply to travelers traveling to Goa with direct and connecting flights, for example, via Sharjah. Tourists need to pass the test not only upon arrival in Goa at the airport, but also on the 8th day of their stay in Goa. The cost of the second test is from $ 24 (payment only in cash). Tourists, upon arrival by transfer, will be informed about where they can take the second PCR test on their own or at the hotel.

Goa has imposed a night curfew due to the rise in new cases of coronavirus. You cannot go outside from 23 pm to 6 am. How long this rule will last has not yet been announced.

The state has restrictions: bars, casinos and restaurants only accept guests who have vaccination certificates or negative test results.
