Ruza Hayit (Iid al-Fitr)

Ruza Hayit (Iid al-Fitr)

Руза хайит (Ийд ал-Фитр)

Among the national religious holidays, a celebration called Uraza Bayram is celebrated, which is honored by all Muslims. It is also known as the Feast of Breaking the Fast – timed to coincide with the end of the holy month of Ramadan, with which the strictest fasting ends. Celebrated on the first day of the month of Shawwal.

The Arabic name for the holiday Iid al-Fitr is the holiday of the end of fasting.

On the eve of this day, believers should especially carefully observe all the prohibitions imposed by fasting, remember the need to completely cleanse themselves both spiritually and physically, show only grace-filled emotions, be good-natured and humble, and bring light to the world.

On the eve and on the day of the holiday, compulsory alms are collected – zakat al-fitr. The collected funds go to the poor, travelers, etc. in the form of dry food products, or the cash equivalent of these products.

On the day of the holiday, Muslims perform a festive ritual prayer, put on the best clothes, prepare traditional dishes, and after the festive prayer they set festive tables, invite neighbors, relatives and friends to visit, make return guest visits with gifts, rejoice and have fun.

On a happy holiday for all Muslims, children take part in various games, visit neighbors, who distribute sweets to them. At this time, it is also customary to distribute donations to the poor, give gifts and ask each other for forgiveness.

In 2022, the holiday is celebrated on May 3 (can be rescheduled for one day).
